태화산

Taehwasan Mountain, which is written as Daehwasan Mountain in the 'Sinjeungdonggugyeojiseungnam', reaches a height of 1,027 meters and has a triangulation point* on the summit, which was installed by the National Geographic Institute in 1995.
* A national control point established by the National Geographic Institute (now the National Geographic Information Institute).

There is a granite cluster at the bottom of the mountain, and you can get drinking water there before climbing the mountain. It is a mountain that does not require much effort to hike, even on the ridge.

Taehwasan Mountain is home to Taehwasanseong Fortress, which was built in the Goryeo Dynasty with a mixture of stones and earth, and has a legend to tell. Once upon a time, a family had a brother and a sister, both generals. Their mother decided to have them compete to build a fortress and only keep the winner. She had her son, Wanggeom, build a stone fortress in Jeongyang-ri, while her daughter built an earthen fortress on Taehwasan Mountain. After a while, the mother worried that her daughter would finish before her son, so she knocked down the earthen castle, and the daughter was crushed to death in the pile of dirt. The legend tells that's how Wanggeomseong Fortress remains in perfect condition today, but Taehwasanseong Fortress was destroyed.
