A forest encountered on the road: Forest of Oriental arborvitae in Yeongcheon-ri, Danyang

영천리 측백나무 숲

Driving along the route leading from Danyang to Jecheon, there is a signpost that catches the eye. Yeongcheon-ri Oriental arborvitae Forest. It was the name of the dense trees that covered the barren mountain.
They are mainly used as ornamental trees due to their beautiful appearance and are often planted around houses and villages to beautify their surroundings. They are often rooted in the rocky crevices of cliffs and form forests, but the clusters of Oriental arborvitae trees in Yeongcheon-ri, Mapo-eup are somehow more welcoming, even on ordinary roads. The Oriental arborvitae trees that grow here are only 1-2 meters tall and form a forest with other trees that grow in limestone areas, such as the Korean meadow spiraea.

- Classification: Natural Habitat
