A rainbow-shaped stone gate Danyang Stone Gate

Located 200 meters north of Danyang's Dodamsambong Peaks, the Stone Gate was once a large limestone cave, but over the years, the cave collapsed and only the entrance remained. The rainbow-shaped circular Stone Gate is an astonishingly sculptural piece of nature that makes visitors gasp in delight. Especially when you descend through the dense jungle-like forest, it creates the illusion of entering an ancient ruin. The view of the Namhangang River and Dodam Village between the gates is like a picture in a photo frame. You can still find traces of the cave today.

Danyang Stone Gate, where the legend of Mago Halmi is hidden

It is said that once upon a time, Mago Halmi, who lost her hairpin when she descended from the sky to fetch water, dug up the soil with her hands to find it, and it became a 99-majigi* rice field. Because the view was so beautiful, she lived and farmed here for the rest of her life, calling it "Seoninokdap," and the harvested grain was used for heavenly food. Meanwhile, Mago Halmi, who loved to drink and smoke, became a rock after her death, and you can find the "Mago Halmi Rock" in the form of a figure holding a long cigarette and a bottle of liquor.
* The size of a paddy, enough to sow 8kgs of seeds. Usually means 661m2 (paddy), or 991m2(field).

3 Ways to Enjoy the View of Danyang Stone Gate

1. Climb up the stairs
Climb the 170 metal stairs and catch your breath at the pavilion at the end of the stairs, where you'll find another view of Danyang Dodamsambong Peaks. About 50 meters from the pavilion, Danyang Stone Gate reveals its magnificent appearance.
2. View from the river
If you take a Hwangpodotbae sailboat or a cruise ship and float down the deep blue waters of the Namhangang River, you'll come across the massive Danyang Stone Gate perched on a high cliff.
3. View from Dodam Village across the river
From the Dodam Garden in Dodam Village across the river, you can either cross the river by Hwangpodotbae sailboat or drive into the village via Sambongdaegyo Bridge. From here, you can not only enjoy the view of Danyang Stone Gate across the river but also take in the scent of the flowers in Dodam Garden.
